Connexions Leicestershire Course Literature
Connexions Leicestershire plays a huge part in helping young people aged 13–19 in both the City and the County make decisions about their future. They offer a wealth of resources that are specifically designed to help them with social, educational, training and work related matters.
The Brief
Hullabaloo has a long-standing relationship with Connexions and we've been part of the team producing their annual publications since the millennium. Reinventing literature year on year carries its own challenges, and we work with a team of editors to pull together the content and help present it in new, exciting ways to a target audience that is both challenging and increasingly demanding!
Our Solution
Each year's literature is given its own strong, punchy style, with a diverse colour palette to give the literature impact. This is combined with soft, friendly typefaces to ensure that the information doesn't overwhelm its audience.
Balancing clarity and visual interest is carefully controlled to avoid compromising legibility for the visually impaired – but without making the materials feel mundane or bland. In addition, Word documents are also produced for large type versions and text-readers.
We also keep in mind that while the primary audience are young people, it's important that parents and carers also engage with the information contained in these guides. We therefore aim to create a style that won't alienate an older generation, and is flexible enough to be carried onto literature specifically aimed at them.
Connexions Leicestershire plays a huge part in helping young people aged 13-19 in both the City and the County make decisions about their future. They offer a wealth of resources that are specifically designed to help them with social, educational, training and work related matters. At the core of the literature are a family of characters – referred to as the 'Connexions Crew'. Created to reflect the diverse audience, we have developed the crew to include a broad range of sexes, ethnic groups, disability and age, as well as representing different social and economic groups and young parents.
One of the challenges of a project like this is to try and top the previous years efforts – and careful monitoring through questionnaires and feedback shows the literature has been well received by both the client and audience alike.
Although it often has to compete for attention on literature stands, we are confident that we have produced something that gets more than its fair share of attention!
